Afonso is the 3rd generation of coffee producer in his family. He shares and works his farm with his father and two brothers. Afonso and his wife Altilina have 2 children, who also work with them.
They have 8 water springs located on their farm which enables them to ensure that all their processes are natural. No machinery is used during the harvest; the preferred method here is to selectively harvest the coffee cherries by hand.
In 2011 they recieved the Model Award from the Brazilian Government for their work towards sustainability and protection of the environment.
Many other awards have been bestowed on this family farm including 'Coffee of the Year' in 2017 and 2019 at the International Coffee Week in Brazil.
Caparao National Park is located on the border of Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo. This beautiful mountain region reaches heights of 2800 meters above sea level and is densly forested, providing a home for many endangered species of flora and fauna.
This is a region of small producers; many of them only have 2 - 5 hectares, which is really small by Brazils standards.
The coffee produced in this incredible region has a delicate acidity and elegant profile. Brazilian coffee is know for its slightly nutty and chocolatey flavours but the coffee here tends to have added fruity and bright notes.
